Eskimo Ice Cream Shoes outlines a cycle of healing that bereaved people need to experience by demonstrating helpful ways of alleviating pain and resuming normal activities. As the drama unfolds, a young woman is still consumed with grief a year after the sudden death of her husband. In the aftermath of his death, her thoughts and behavior assume a somewhat typical pattern: early denial leads her to suppress painful feelings, which, in turn causes physical changes - loss of appetite, sleeplessness, and abuse of alcohol. At the suggestion of a friend, she takes a little trip in hopes of breaking out of this cycle and changing the direction of her life. When a mysterious but engaging ice cream vendor finally is able to get through to her, her feelings surface and her grief begins to assume a healthy direction.
