Lucy's Room Produced by Brian Lindstrom
Watching this video, the viewer is witness to the dramatic struggle of a young couple who are trying to come to terms with the death of their first baby. Although some time has passed and the wife is attempting to get on with her life, the husband is still filled with grief and is having difficulty accepting the death. The turning point comes one day when the wife unexpectedly reaches out to help an indigent, pregnant, single woman by paying part of her grocery bill. Afterwards, in the parking lot the wife spontaneously asks the young woman to follow her home and tells her she wants to give her something--a crib. When the husband comes home and finds the two women in the baby's room, he is rude to the pregnant woman. He does not feel ready to give up what he perceives as the only thing that remains of his child. The wife tries to get her husband to set aside his grief for a while and go away with her for the weekend, but he refuses and she goes alone; he wrestles with his feelings in her absence. When the young pregnant woman overcomes her pride and comes back to ask for a much-needed job recommendation, the husband suddenly decides to give her the crib after all and his healing begins. The film closes as he walks toward his wife on the dock near the weekend retreat. This short but moving film is appropriate for showing in group or individual counseling settings, as part of hospice and pastoral care, or in classes on death and dying. Color, 15 minutes,
