Mending Hearts Executive

Produced by Lon Holmberg

Narrated by Christopher Reeve

This remarkable video documents two years in the lives of four people with HIV who are struggling to come to terms with reality and change their lives to accommodate their diagnosis. The viewer will learn what it is really like to desperately want to live and be happy, yet be faced with the knowledge that death may be imminent.

Interwoven with their stories are interviews with friends, health professionals, and street soldiers in the battle against AIDS. There is an excellent section on the spread of AIDS among IV drug users and the efforts to check it. Mending Hearts also contains candid interviews with two physicians - Dr. Richard Dubois and Dr. Jim Braude - whose practice is largely made up of people with AIDS. They voice all the frustrations of health professionals who are fighting the odds, trying to make a difference in the epidemic: "Sometimes you feel like you're out there thrashing in the ocean without a paddle."

"This video will provide HIV education to high school and college-aged students as no textbook can." - Science Books and Films
