Dying to Be Thin

Produced by Donna Vogt

This startling new video, produced by a recovering anorexic, is a window into the lives of several people who literally risked death in order to be thin. One of them - Randy Myers - did die, at age 16. Two unique features of Dying to Be Thin are the focus on adults and the inclusion of the experiences of two men who suffered from eating disorders. This program effectively dispels the myth that anorexia and bulimia are adolescent female diseases.

In addition to the personal insight offered by the victims, physicians and counselors discuss the causes of eating disorders and provide both an individual and family profile of a typical eating disorders victim. These professionals also graphically detail the early warning signs and the devastating physical and psychological effects of anorexia and bulimia. Dying to Be Thin is recommended for:

  • Patient education as part of a treatment plan or community outreach program
  • Health professionals in any specialty who may encounter patients with eating disorders
  • Junior high, high school, and college counselors
  • Student health services staff
  • Health education, psychology, nutrition, and PE classes
