Heavy Load Produced by Johnny Stevens Films, Inc.
Heavy Load is the story of a mother struggling with an overwhelming compulsion for food. The film portrays many of the idiosyncracies of the compulsive personality - denial of the problem, procrastination, hiding and sneaking food. As is so often the case, Joyce's addiction has a strong impact on her family. She unconsciously nurtures her son's growing dependence on food to justify her own. Her daughter, unable to find a loving relationship at home, seeks love from her uncle Matt who is a recovering compulsive overeater. Matt sees his sister's problem but patiently and lovingly resists forcing solutions, waiting instead until Joyce demonstrates a readiness to face her addiction. Finally, a support group for overeaters offers her real hope in overcoming her problem. Color, 36 minutes,
