Kids Talking to Kids

Optimistic and encouraging in tone, the video shows what children of alcoholics can do to improve their situation and learn to cope with their parents' alcohol abuse. Without stigmatizing or labeling, the video encourages children to seek their own remedies with a message of hope, not suffering. It features five teen "experts" who speak candidly about their personal experiences living with an alcoholic parent. Instead of feeling sorry for themselves, they have learned to develop their own interests and take care of themselves.

This prevention/education video can be used with children aged 10-13 in a variety of settings such as general classrooms, special education classes, Student Assistance Programs, after-school groups, and school-wide events such as assemblies and health fairs. It can be used with any group of children, whether or not their parents drink, to stimulate discussion, nurture insight and understanding of family alcoholism, and provide messages of prevention and resiliency.
