Relaxation Procedures in Cancer Treatment Passive Relaxation Featuring Dr. William Redd and Dr. Thomas Burish
The passive induction
procedure involves focusing the patient's attention on the sensations
in various muscle groups and shifting attention to tranquil scenes to
maintain the relaxed state and distract the patient from the treatment
procedure. The guided observation of muscle tension is followed by descriptions
of relaxing scenes which you may be able to use. The images used, however,
should be compatible with your own personal experiences and preferences.
Active Relaxation Featuring Dr. Thomas Burish
The active relaxation induction involves tensing and relaxing several major muscle groups, beginning with the feet and progressing up through the entire body. Suggested relaxing scenes are presented at the end of the tape which should be adapted to your own experiences and preferences.
